Thierry Smolderen (Brussels, 1954) is a Belgian comic book writer and essayist. Since the end of the 1980s he has ventured into the script of various comic series, especially with a science fiction theme, such as Hybride, Convoi and Gipsy, published by various Franco-Belgian publishers. In 2009, after years of research and study, Smolderen published the essay Naissances de la bande dessinée with Les Impressions nouvelles, to revitalize the debate on the subject. Since 1994 he has been teaching at the Angoulême School of Fine Arts. In 2014, he wrote Souvenir dell’empire dell’atom, a science fiction story created in tandem with the illustrator Alexandre Clérisse. His award-winning essay Le origini del fumetto is published for the first time in Italy thanks to Edizioni NPE.
